Go Walk St Andrews ~ Lade Braes Walk

Lade Braes Walk is a wonderful flower filled forested walk along the Kinness Burn. It has many different routes or loops you can take or it can be used as part of a longer walk to either Spinkie Den, Lumbo and Craigtoun Den then Craigtoun Park. The Lade Braes is a fantastic spot for wildlife lovers. I have seen personally spotted kingfishers, otter, badger, and deer within it's boundaries as well as all kinds of bird life.

Officially Lade Braes begins on Lade Braes Lane and runs down the left hand side of Madras college. However my advice is to skip this part completely. A brief rundown of a walk on this section would be - Walk through the smoke filled crowd of bored teenagers filling their nicotine filled lungs and carry on the winding graphiti daubed, broken glass strewn pathway until you come to city road. Delight along the way at the colourful penis artwork and epitaphs such as 'Jesus hearts drugs' and 'lighting up the darkness'.

Seriously not worth starting your walk here. Skip directly along South Street turn left at the West port and go down to the traffic lights where you will see another signpost for the Lade Braes. Alternatively start directly from Cockshaugh park, there is a small parking area beside Cockshaugh Park but this is generally busy.

Time : 20 mins

Distance : 1.75 km

Rating : 8/10

Hazards : Wildlife

So in conclusion ...

A fantastic walk, the 8/10 rating is due to some benches and paths are in need of repair, but recently investment has been pledged to ehlp restore the walk.

Craigtoun Den

The best way to reach Craigtoun Park in St Andrews if you are a keen walker. I started the walk in the Lade Braes so you can see the continuation if you were to walk from town. Follow the sign posted path for Craigtoun park in Lade Braes to go past the Mill pond, continue to the next sign which will direct you past the Bogward Doocot
